Tech Sgt. 5 Selestino Cortez

PFC Cody Norris

Tech Sgt 5 Selestino Cortez served with the 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, Easy “E” Company in the European Theater during World War II. Selestino was born in 1919, He graduated from Deer Park High School in 1937 and held a job as a janitor for the Deer Park School District prior to being drafted into the Army on the September 16th, 1942.

Upon Graduation from basic training, Cortez was placed into the unit he would serve with throughout the invasion of Europe and the Battle of the Bulge. On January 4th, 1945, in the forest of Belgium, Tech Sgt 5 Selestino Cortez gave his life for his country and fellow soldiers. He was 25 years old. 

PFC Cody Norris served with the 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas and was deployed to Afghanistan as part of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT). Cody was born on the October 21, 1991. He attended La Porte High School and was a member of the Army JROTC. 

Upon graduation in 2010, Norris enlisted in the U.S. Army. After basic and advanced training, he was assigned to the unit he would serve with in Afghanistan, the 1st Infantry Division.  On November 9th, 2011, in the Kandahar province PFC Cody Norris would succumb to small-arms fire and give his life at the age of 20. He would be awarded the Bronze Star posthumously.
